Predicting Direct Protein Interactions Using Transfer Learning

Summary

The Cellular and Molecular Biophysics lab (Prof. Petra Schwille) at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry is offering a Master thesis in the fields of Biophysics/Bioinformatics/Data Science. In this highly independent project you will build a Deep Learning model predicting direct physical interactions between proteins. You will combine pre-trained state-of-the-art protein language models with GNNs on graph representations of protein structures and validate and improve the model with explainable AI algorithms. You will be supervised 1:1 by a PhD student and have access to the HPC systems of the Max Planck Society. Ideally you will start in mid-September or early October, but other dates are possible. Previous knowledge in Deep Learning and programming in Python is recommended. Supervision is offered in German or English.
