Chemistry PhD position at the Department of Nuclear Medicine TUM

In this project, we will synthesize and evaluate a novel class of small-molecule based ligands for targeted alpha therapy of prostate cancer.

Location:  Department of Nuclear Medicine and Central Institute for Translational Cancer Research (TranslaTUM), Klinikum rechts der Isar München; Ismaninger Straße 22, 81675 München

Start Date: Q1 2023

Project Area:    Targeted radioactive ligands hold great promise for treatment of advanced metastatic prostate cancer. In recent years, especially small molecules, labeled with alpha-emitting isotopes displayed a favorable treatment response in patients. However, also side effects are potentially higher, compared to standard therapy. In this project, we will synthesize and evaluate a novel class of small-molecule based ligands for targeted alpha therapy of prostate cancer.

Your Tasks:
•       Synthesis of peptides by solid-phase peptide synthesis
•       Synthesis of small organic molecules and conjugation
•       Development and optimization of radiolabeling procedures, using Actinium-225 and Fluorine-18
•       Evaluation of radiolabeled compounds using in vitro and ex vivo methods, e.g. on cells and tissue samples
•       Positron emission tomography-based imaging in animal models
•       Biodistribution studies in animal models

Our offer:
•       You will work in an international group of scientists and clinicians (Postdocs and PhD students with a background in chemistry, biology, veterinarians, physicians and technical assistants) with an excellent infrastructure and a strong focus on translational research
•       The salary will be according to TV-L E13 (65%)
•       You will be a member of the graduate program at TUM and will be able to participate in workshops (scientific and soft skills), seminars and career-building programs

The position require a high level of motivation, curiosity, and commitment to scientific excellence. We are looking for self-driven and independent candidates with a critical work ethic. The candidates should have a strong interest in applied and translational research. If you are interested and have a MSc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or similar qualification, please send a motivation letter and CV, including your possible start date. Applicants (m/f/d) should submit their electronic application to:
