2 PhD positions in Cancer Research

Development of innovative Multidrug Targeted Nanocarries for Imaging and Therapy of colorectal cancer

TranslaTUM – Central Institute for Translational Cancer Research and
Department of Nuclear Medicine, Klinikum rechts der Isar München
Ismaninger Straße 22, 81675 München

Start Date:
preferably August 2022

Project Area:
Development of innovative Multidrug Targeted Nanocarries for Imaging and Therapy of colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancer diagnoses with almost 900.000 deaths annually. More than 50% of patients develop metastasis accompanied with poor prognosis. In this project we aim to develop a strategy for a targeted delivery of a chemotherapeutic payload to tumor cells, in order to increase therapeutic efficacy and to minimize side effects. The compounds will additionally be labeled with radionuclides and/or fluorescent dyes in order to track their biodistribution.

Your Tasks:
PhD position 1: Chemistry
–       Synthesis of cyclic peptides by solid-phase peptide synthesis
–       Synthesis of small organic molecules and conjugation
–       Development and optimization of radiolabeling procedures
–       Characterization of radiolabeled molecules

PhD position 2: Biochemistry, Biology
–       Evaluation of the radiolabeled and/or fluorescent-labeled compounds on cells and tissue samples
–       Further characterization of samples by autoradiography, microscopy and imaging flow cytometry
–       Positron emission tomography-based imaging in animal models
–       Biodistribution studies in animal models

The project will be performed by two PhD candidates who will work complementarily on separate topics. This position is a great opportunity to contribute with your own research to fight cancer. Located in the heart of Munich, our labs offer you a place in a highly motivating environment with excellent and creative working atmosphere, to perform your tasks independently and contribute with your own ideas. If you are interested and have a MSc. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or similar qualification, please send a motivation letter and CV, including your possible start date.
